If we are discussing the Aviation Sector of Pakistan it's very important to talk about the Aviation Division Government of Pakistan. The Aviation Division makes strategies, policies, and oversight of all matters related to Civil Aviation. The Development of civil Air Transport is important for the economic development of any country the Aviation Division had been working under the Ministry of Defense as a wing until it was separated and created a new division under the cabinet Secretariat in June 2013 the vision of Aviation Division is to promote and regulate Civil Aviation activities and develop infrastructure.

 Functions of Aviation Division

According to the Rules of Business, 1973 the functions Allocated to the Aviation division are as below

  • Aircraft and air navigation the administration of the Civil Aviation Ordinance 1960 
  • Development of Civil aviation in Pakistan
  • Provision of aerodromes
  • Airports Development Agency
  • Regulation, Organization, and safety of air traffic and aerodromes.
  • Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL)
  • Air service agreements with other countries

The functions which are not done by the aviation division are carried out by attached Departments and autonomous bodies/ organizations these areas below

History of Pakistan International Airlines 

On 29 October 1946, PIA was founded as Orient Airway and it was initially based in Calcutta in British India before the independence of Pakistan. The Orient Airway was Nationalized After 1947 to form the Pakistan Airlines Corporation the Pakistan International airline was based on a fleet of three L- 1049C super Condtellation, two Convair CV- 2040s, 11 DC-3 aircraft. The new airline commenced international services to Landon, Cairo and Rome Pakistan International Airline became the first Asian airline to Operate jet aircraft with the introduction of the Boeing 707 into commercial services on 7 March 1960 and later in 1964 became the first non-communist airline to fly to china it also played an important role in the establishment of emirates airline in 1985 one more fact about PIA is in 2005 it competed the world longest commercial flight it was non stop flight completed in more than 22 hours by commercial airline Pakistan International Airline is Pakistan largest airline and operates a fleet of 29 aircraft PIA operates nearly 100 flights daily servicing 18 domestic destinations and 25 international destinations across Asia Europe, East 

and North America Pakistan international airlines also owns Roosevelt Hotel in new york city and Sofitel Paris scribe Hotel I Paris PIA operated a frequent flier program, PIA Awards + and has several codeshares and interline agreements it is not part of any alliance.

The Pakistan international airlines serve as the national flag carrier of Pakistan under the Administrative control of the secretary to the Government of Pakistan for Aviation. Karachi International Airport is the hub of Pakistan International Airlines and the Islamabad International Airport and Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore are the Secondary Hub of Pakistan International Airlines the Subsidiaries of Pakistan international airlines are Roosevelt Hotel was a historic hotel located at 45 east 45 street in Midtown Manhattan, Manhattan, New york city the Roosevelt opened on 22 September 1924. And other is Sofitel Paris Scribe Hotel in Paris same followed by Skyrooms PTV limited And PIA Investment. The Pakistan international airlines fleet size is 29 and its destinations are 56 the parent company is Aviation Division and GOP it trades as PSX: PIAA the headquarter of Pakistan international Airline is in Karachi Pakistan named as Jinnah International Airport if we discuss about the revenue of Pakistan international airlines it is about Rs 94.989 billion which is around 590 million in US dollars in 2019 to 2020 and the operating income of Pakistan international airline is around Rs 680 million which is around 4.2 million in US Dollars in 2019 to 2020 the net income of Pakistan international airlines is Rs 34.643 billion and around 220 million in US Dollars now coming towards workers of Pakistan international airlines around 10,500 employees are working in Pakistan international airlines in 2021.
