Introduction to the Energy Sector of Pakistan
Energy Sector of Pakistan
Energy is a basic necessity for all human beings, unfortunately facing countless hurdles in production, distribution, and consumption collectively imposing critical implications on the economic growth of the country. Energy specifically electricity is considered the backbone of a country’s economy. With the evolution of human civilization and the rapid increase in the use of energy, Pakistan is considered an electricity-deficient country. There are numerous factors contributing to this intense statement such as economic factors, technological factors, demographic factors, political factors, social factors, environmental factors, and policy changes. Where do we lack as a country? Is it knowingly or unknowingly that our present and future policies are devoid of efficiency and sustainability? We are historically failing to implement and execute policies of dire importance to the economic growth and development of our country. We as students of Public Administration and Governance aim to curtail the gaps inset between the formulation and implementation of policies.
We are students of BS-Public Administration and

absolute importance for our country. We as youth are esteemed to polish our
skills and strengthen ourselves as a nation. This semester we are introduced to
the course PUBLIC SECTOR REFORMS AND SOCIAL CHANGE under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Athar Rashid. We pledge to be a part of
the social change and make contributions to reforming the public sector
institutions.

It identifies the MAJOR ENERGY CONSUMERS in the country
as domestic, industrial, commercial, agricultural, and transport.
Moreover, to meet the energy needs of consumers, there
are several STAKEHOLDERS and bodies overseeing the generation, distribution,
and transmission of energy such as the Ministry of Water and Power, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the Private Power Infrastructure Board
(PPIB), Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA), National Transmission
& Despatch Company (NTDC), Generation company (GENCO), Distribution Company (DISCO) and Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
